Reasons Why the Next New Zelda Game Will Be Inspired by Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

In an exclusive interview 4Gamer with Eiji Aonuma as Producer of The Legend of Zelda Series said that the ideas they got from collaborating with Koei Tecmo could influence the next new Zelda game.

Aonuma even suggested that gamers imagine this when playing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, while waiting for the next new game.

The problem is, Age of Imprisonment is a musou game which is actually very different from the general Zelda gameplay formula. However, it’s possible that the next new Zelda game will feature lots of enemies like those in Age of Imprisonment.

Apart from that, Nintendo could also insert a co-op feature or offer several playable characters so that players don’t always have to use Link. There are many possibilities but for now, players can only guess while waiting for an official announcement from Nintendo.

Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Zelda Series

If you look at history, Nintendo usually doesn’t take long to release main games from the Super Mario and Zelda series on their new consoles. If it’s not released as a launch-title game, at least it will be released shortly after the consoles are available.

Nintendo itself usually holds a Nintendo Direct in February almost every year. And considering that 2026 will mark the 40th anniversary of the Zelda series, there is a pretty big possibility that next year’s Nintendo Direct will be used to announce the newest Zelda game.
