Team Liquid – The Esports scene is one of the huge industries where there are many connoisseurs of the type of match. And this is also the reason for the many sponsors who attended the competitive scene.
Recently, Team Liquid got quite bad news. The team has now lost one of its sponsors, Honda due to a tweet from its players. What kind of tweet caused this to happen?
The reason Team Liquid loses sponsors from Honda
This began with the tweet of the Rainbow Six Six Six (R6) Liquid Team player, Liquid Dias. He made a tweet on his Twitter/X account discussed his victory and defeat in the tournament.
The tweet has now been deleted. This tweet in Portuguese is translated as “We won against Faze and lost to a strong cag, stayed forward and see you in the next tournament”.
Indeed, the twisting language that he conveyed was quite polite and there was no element of offensive. But the problem is that he took a gif that displayed a nuclear explosion in his tweet.

CAG is a Japanese team with the name Cyclops Athlete Gaming. And the nuclear explosion itself is quite sensitive for Japanese citizens and the tweet is considered to attack the history of the nuclear bomb tragedy that occurred in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the 2nd World War.
And according to the view of netizens, the shared GIF came from the BBC documentary titled Hiroshima: Dropping The Bomb – Hiroshima – BBC released in 2017 on Youtube. Twitter/X netizens suspect that the GIF is deliberately used by Dias because it can only be found if typing the word “Hiroshima” when looking for it.
Reporting from Yahoo Japan, American Honda Motor which is a Japanese American Branch Honda company protested against Team Liquid because it was considered not in accordance with the context. As a result, the company decided to stop being a sponsorship of the team which they had been running for 6 years.
Team Liquid and Dias have apologized

Regarding the tweet, Dias made a new tweet that apologized for the previous tweet. He felt guilty for using this nuclear explosion gif and caused some parties to be uncomfortable.
Team Liquid also apologized by writing an official statement on their site and on the team’s social media account. The team also explained that the CAG players have forgiven Dias.
In addition, Team Liquid has given sanctions to the player by providing a fine of 4 months of salary because it has failed to meet professionalism standards and provide additional training related to social media.

For the R6 division team, all their victories in the reload tournament they have gotten will be donated to the social foundation as a form of their good responsibilities and intentions. The fine they give to Dias will also be donated.
And for the next 6 months, the team will re -training to the players of each division they have and their coaches related to the procedures for social media. Dias Cuitan will be used as a case study in training to prevent similar cases from happening in the future.
Hopefully, eSports players both from Team Liquid and other players can be better and can avoid similar work happening again in the future. Wisely in social media, brott!
