Larian Studios says fans don’t need to play the previous Divinity series to enjoy its latest iteration


The reveal of the Divinity game by Larian Studios at The Game Awards 2025 certainly succeeded in stealing the attention of many fans of the predecessor series, and even those who only played the game Baldur’s Gate 3.

This certainly sparked a lot fan new to try out previous Divinity games, starting from Divine: Divinity released in 2002 to its newest iteration: Divinity: Original Sin 2 released in 2017.

However, Swen Vincke as CEO and director at Larian Studios (via GamesRadar+) actually stated that players do not need to dive into the previous games to enjoy the next Divinity.

If you play the first and second Divinity: Original Sin, you will see various things from both games that are referenced in Divinity. If you played the first Divinity, you’ll see the game is referenced well in this Divinity. Ego Draconis too, as well as The Dragon Knight Saga, are all referenced, but only as part of the history that occurred in this world, and that helped shape the world to get to this point.
