Mecharashi’s developer was sued by Square Enix, what’s up?

Through the official website of its official website, Blackjack Studio as the developer of Mecharashi and HK Ten Tree Limited as the US Publisher Region shared an important announcement. On March 27, 2025, they announced that they had received a lawsuit from the Square Enix company.

The lawsuit is related to where Square Enix suspects that HK Ten Tree Limited uses assets from their previous project entitled Front Mission 2089: Borderscape. They also claimed that the developer of Blackjack Studio who previously worked together in the Borderscape project had used Square Enix assets to make mecharashi.

On March 13, 2025, Square Enix asked the court to dismiss the circulation of this game in the United States until assets that violate copyrights were replaced or removed by HK Ten Tree Limited. They also asked for compensation of $ 150 thousand per copyright infringement.

Facing this lawsuit, HK Ten Tree Limited said that they really appreciate creativity and copyright law, and they are also committed to resolving this problem professionally for the lawsuit from Square Enix. They also promised to replace some of the assets in question, such as the item icon, and other visual elements that were considered to violate copyrights.

Although this lawsuit is still in the legal process, this Mecha game can still be played in the Japanese and Chinese markets, and on the Steam platform for the United States region, the status of “Coming Soon”. This is a positive sign that the game still continues to expand its reach even though legal issues are still unfinished.
